When I connect the laptop and projector via HDMI, the laptop seems to recognize that an external display has been connected as a second display is detected in the graphics settings. I am able to connect to the projector via laptop's VGA port (RGB input on projector) and get it to display properly. I don't usually have issues dong things like this, but I had to give up after about 45 minutes of scratching my head and trying the same things over and over.
